About the Uprising

April 20 (4/20) Has had it's share of problems. It's the birthdate of Hitler, the anniversary of the Columbine Massacre. The Murrah building was blown up the day before April 19 as did the Waco tragedy, with the Virginia Tech massacre happening on the 16th. 420 is also a code for marijuana and 4/20 has also been associated with drug abuse.

I was in a prayer meeting on 4/20 and as we prayed I felt the Lord pressing me to take this day back. You see this may be a day of great tragedy but it also usually falls near the day when Christians celebrate the greatest event in history, the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. As I prayed I began to hear Rise Up. I started to imagine that on this day so many celebrate by "getting high" a way of escaping the realities of life and damaging their physical bodies for a state of temporary euphoria, while others have committed totally senseless acts of violence, what if we did something different? What if we who follow Jesus Christ committed to marking April 20 by doing wonderful acts of beauty, service and love?

What if for one day, the church of Jesus Christ all over the world celebrated our risen Lord by devoting itself to spending the day making a difference in our communities. (We're supposed to do that all year round, you know)? What would happen? Could we take this day back and make it a day to be remembered for amazing acts of selfless love? No protests, no sign waving, just the people of God rising up to show the love of Jesus, by serving and loving others, reclaiming a day marked with tragedy and re-marking it to the glory of God.

So that's what I'm doing. This is a very grassroots movement, at this point it's just me and a few folks from my church, but I'm seeking your help to spread the Word.
